Zim celebrities need fashion education: Hogo

RADIO and television personality Timothy Hogo has said Zimbabwean celebrities urgently need education on fashion.

The 21-year-old was speaking to NewsDay after his appointment as brand ambassador for Durban-based TZM Fashion House.

TZM Fashion House is owned by prolific designer Thembani Mubochwa who is based in the KwaZulu-Natal port city.

Hogo said it was saddening to see celebrities inappropriately dressed in public.

“You come across a celebrity donning a T-shirt at an awards ceremony and you wonder what they are thinking,” Hogo said.

“Celebrities are opinion leaders and they are supposed to set the trends, but it appears they desperately need to be empowered.”

The South Africa-based Mubochwa signed the young presenter in line with his drive to garner support on home soil after conquering Durban where he dresses multitudes of celebrities.

Mubochwa said the Hogo deal is in tandem with their plans this year that will see him working more with local shops and celebrities.
He said he would be dividing his attention between fashion retailers and individuals.

“Thembani Mubochwa the designer will be dealing with celebrities to make sure we maintain and cater for the unique individual needs of every personality while TZM Fashion House will be engaging the retail front which I feel desperately needs a touch of local,” said Mubochwa.

“We are still in negotiations with a number of retailers and we hope we will start working soon.”

He said Hogo is a perfect choice for an ambassador as he is still growing just as the brand.

Hogo said he is on board with Mubochwa’s projects because of the audience they both target.
“You will find that the most fashion-conscious group is the youth which is the same group of people that TZM Fashion House is targeting,” Hogo said.

“On radio my shows all cater for the youth the same as on TV where I am a presenter at YGT. So I think the concept works well because since I posted a few pictures in some of the TZM designs a lot of celebrities have been asking around where I got them,” he said.

Hogo is a producer-presenter at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s Power FM on programmes Feelings Out and Chasing the Dawn.

Radio and TV presenter Hazvinei “DJ Chilli” Sakarombe was also endorsed as an ambassador catering for the fairer sex.
