Hon Ray kaukonde loses Parliament post

OUSTED Zanu PF Mashonaland East chairperson Ray Kaukonde has been fired as chairman of parliamentary committee on industry, it emerged Thursday.

Also sacked with Kaukonde was Enock Porusingazi who is no longer chair of the foreign affairs committee.

Both legislators were among the casualties of the recent Zanu PF purges over an alleged plot to topple President Robert Mugabe ahead of eh ruling party’s congress last December.

Kaukonde had been accused of working with ousted vice president Joice Mujuru to push Mugabe out and he was named as a key financier of the camp which wanted the 91-year old leader removed from office.

Speaker of the national assembly, Jacob Mudenda, told MPs during Thursdays’ sitting that Kaukonde was now an ordinary MP.

He will be replaced as industry committee chair by Masvingo Central lawmaker, Edmond Mhere, a staunch supporter of vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s faction.

“The chief whip of Zanu PF had advised the chair that Hon Ray kaukonde is no longer the chairperson for the portfolio committee on Industry and commence and will be replaced by Hon Mhere,” said Speaker Mudenda.

The other casualty in the Zanu PF last year’s purge ahead of its congress, Porusingazi, also lost the chairmanship of the committee on foreign affairs after he was replaced by ex-Harare province Zanu PF head, Amos Midzi.

Porusingazi was suspended for five years in the build up to the congress on allegations that he was also financing the Mujuru camp.

Before his appointment to chair the portfolio committee on Foreign Affairs, Midzi was chairing the Transport committee.

Chegutu West MP, Dexter Nduna, has been elevated to head the portfolio which will be responsible for oversight on the ministry of Transport and parastatals under its ambit.
