Man thoroughly beaten up for praying wrongly at Prophet Magaya's church

Churches are well known to be places of peace and humanity, places which are expected to contain leaders who have a good heart, people who accommodate all the different types of people's behaviour and attitudes. Church are believed to be places were God's presence is felt.

This norm has been believed for so many years and peaceful things have been happening at the churches but to some individuals, this norm seems to have broken as violent activities are taking place in churches which is raising eyebrows of so many people within and outside churches.

In 'batai munhu' incident, the Sulu Chimbetu style, an act of violence took place at the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries on the 6th of February this year when a Harare man was brutally assaulted while he was attending Prophet Magaya's church service for the first time.

The incident occurred after the man was dragged outside the church and was thoroughly beaten by Prophet Magaya's security ushers. He says he was manhandled because of the way he was praying!

40-year-old Cornelious Gwati who resides in Glen View 1, got a shock of his life after he was brutally assaulted by many people including Prophet Magaya's bouncers, using open hands on his head while he was attending Prophet Magaya's church service for the first time.

The unbelievale incident took place at the PHD ministries place of worship, opposite Zindoga Shops in Waterfalls on the 6th of February this year.

The case was reported at Waterfalls Police Station on the same day under case number CR323/02/15

"It was my first time to attend a church service at PHD ministries at Zindoga. It was on a Friday evening at around 7pm and I was seated at the chairs just behind pastors seats. Prophet Walter Magaya entered the church and he started preaching about blessings. He then told everyone to pray. That is when I also started praying and I then began praying in tongues," explained Gwati.

Praying in tongues in Pentecostal churches is a well known as accepted spiritual phenomenon and tongues are believed to be a sign of reaching higher spiritual levels but to Gwati it did not turn that way as he was heavily bashed when he was found speaking in tongues.

"I was dragged outside the church by the bouncers and they started beating me up with their bare hands. They bashed me saying the way I was praying was not tolerated in PHD Ministries. I was beaten up until my head sustained bruised injuries and my ear also got injured," he said.

A man who was only identified as Robin was identified as one of the people who assaulted 'tongues speaker' Gwati.

Interestingly, Robin mistakenly heavily bashed one of the security details in the face and he sustained lip injury. The heavy blow was believed to have been targeted at Gwati.

"A man called Robin came at the scene and he started beating me at the back of my head. He then mistakenly hit one of the security guys instead of me and that man sustained head injuries. I was then taken to a local clinic by some pastors and I was given pain killers. Some pastors asked for my forgiveness but I want my medical bills to be catered for.

"I went home and spent the night bleeding from my ear and I went to Harare Hospital for treatment were I was given a medical report after they had asked for my police report," added the battered man.

Speaking to one of the PHD church members who asked to remain anonymous, supposedly to avoid facing the same 'batai munhu' instant justice, the church member said Gwati was indeed beaten up at PHD Ministries by many people.

"I witnessed the incident. I was there and a lot of people attacked him with bare hands on his face and he was severely injured," said the witness.

Efforts to reach Prophet Magaya and the ushers were fruitless as the phone went unanswered for so long and when it was eventually answered, a woman who identified herself as Amai Moyo said she had no idea that such a thing happened at PHD Ministries.

After some time, the woman made a somersault and went on to deny being a member of Prophet Magaya's church. Myzimbabwe.co.zw
