Paul and Chantal Biya Return To Yaoundé After Month Long Holiday In Europe

Paul and Chantal Biya have returned to Yaoundé this Saturday, October 21, 2017 after nearly five weeks of holidays in Europe.

The Cameroonian presidential couple left Yaoundé on September 14, 2017, with New York as its main destination in the United States, where it should take part in the proceedings of the 72nd UN General Assembly.

Announced sometimes sick, sometimes fled to Geneva in Switzerland by Cameroonian activists, it is finally after 36 days that the Cameroonian presidential couple returned to the capital, in a context where the country is strongly shaken by the Anglophone crisis.

From Europe, the 84-year-old Cameroonian president, 35 of whom have been in power, has shown his interest in the socio-political situation of his country.

On 1 October last, the radical declaration of independence of the English-speaking party, by the radical activists of the Southern Cameroon National Council (SCNC), marked by demonstrations repressed by the security and security forces, the Cameroonian president has condemned the violence wherever it comes from and reiterated its call for dialogue.

Two weeks later, Biya dispatched Philemon Yang, his prime minister in the English-speaking area, to go door-to-door to listen to the representatives of the main unions and various forces in the two northwestern and southwestern regions.

The North-West SearchNorthwest and Southwest regions have been shaken since November 2016 by a socio-political crisis.

Initially corporatist, the so-called Anglophone crisis, has taken the political color, the resentment of identity.
